Hull Scalping Strategy: A Trend-Following Scalping System for Low-Spread Pairs

Daniel Parker
Hull Scalping is a fast-paced, trend-aligned scalping system for low-spread forex pairs, built on HMA and MACD signals.

Hull Scalping is a short-term, trend-following scalping strategy built on the MACD and Hull Moving Average (HMA) indicators. It relies on proprietary custom indicators and is designed for execution on small timeframes — primarily the M5 chart. Due to its high-frequency nature, it works best with low-spread currency pairs to minimize transaction costs.

Trading Parameters

  • Currency pairs: Any major or minor pair with the lowest possible spread.
  • Timeframe: M5.
  • Optimal trading sessions: London and New York sessions.
  • Risk management: Calculate stop-loss first, then select lot size so that risk per trade does not exceed 2–5% of account equity.

Indicators Used

To analyze price action, install the following indicators (available via the download link at the end of this article and in your MT4 terminal):

  • TZ Pivots D
  • Parabolic SAR (0.01, 0.2)
  • HMA (25)
  • HMA (45)
  • Non Lag (25)
  • Trend filter
  • RSI BAR (2)
  • Renko Scalping (15, 30, 16)
  • MACD (EMA 12, 26, SMA 9, close)

Indicator & Template Setup

To speed up setup and ensure consistency, use the provided template:

  • HMA (45) line is red.
  • NonLagDot(25) indicator is red.
  • Parabolic SAR is located above price (optional condition).
  • MACD histogram is below the zero line.
  • A red cube appears on the RenkoScalp_MSAlert indicator.

Exit Rules

Close positions using one of two methods:

  • Fixed take-profit of 9–15 pips (adjust based on pair volatility).
  • At reversal pivot levels (e.g., TZ Pivots D levels).

According to ForTraders’ analysts, Hull Scalping is a functional and potentially profitable scalping system — if all rules are strictly followed. Its main drawback is indicator overload, which may clutter the chart and hinder price-action analysis. Since Parabolic SAR is an optional filter, traders may consider omitting it to simplify visual interpretation.

FAQ

What timeframes work best with Hull Scalping?

The strategy is specifically designed for the M5 (5-minute) timeframe; higher or lower timeframes reduce signal reliability.

Which currency pairs are recommended?

Major pairs with tight spreads — especially EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY — are optimal due to lower slippage and commission impact.

Can I remove some indicators without affecting performance?

Yes — Parabolic SAR is marked optional. Traders often omit it to reduce chart noise while preserving core HMA+MACD+Renko logic.
