About instrument
USDC (USD Coin) is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and issued by the American company Circle. The token launched in September 2018 and now circulates on Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum and dozens of other networks, serving as a settlement unit on exchanges, in DeFi protocols and in cross-border payments.
USDC reserves are held separately from the issuer's own funds: cash at regulated US banks plus short-dated US Treasuries in the Circle Reserve Fund managed by BlackRock. Deloitte publishes monthly attestations of the reserve composition, and Circle itself has been listed on the NYSE under the ticker CRCL since June 2025, which adds SEC reporting on top of those attestations.
The USDC rate stays close to 1.00: deviations are normally hundredths of a percent and come from liquidity imbalances between exchanges. The one notable break of the peg happened in March 2023, when $3.3 billion of reserves were stuck at the collapsed Silicon Valley Bank and the price dropped to roughly $0.87 — it recovered within days once regulators guaranteed the deposits.
For a trader USDC is first of all a place to park capital and settle between trades: the yield comes not from the token itself but from the spread against USDT and from lending-protocol rates. The quote on this page is built from the live USDC market on crypto exchanges.
