The Forex Total Power Indicator is a trend-following indicator built on MetaTrader 4’s standard Bear Power and Bull Power indicators.
It calculates how many bullish and bearish bars occurred over a defined lookback period, then expresses that as proportional values for Bears, Bulls, and Total Power—the difference between Bull and Bear strength—for the current bar. This delivers continuous lines showing relative average strength over time, avoiding the short-term bias of the original Bear and Bull Power indicators.
Input Parameters:
- LookbackPeriod (default = 45) — number of bars analyzed to assess bull/bear dominance.
- PowerPeriod (default = 10) — period used by the underlying Bear Power and Bull Power indicators.

How to Use the Total Power Indicator:
The most reliable signal—though infrequent—is when the Bull line (for long entries) or Bear line (for short entries) reaches 100 and the Total line also reads 100. Open a long position if triggered by Bull; open a short position if triggered by Bear.
A Bull–Bear crossover also generates signals: buy when Bull crosses above Bear; sell when Bear crosses above Bull.
Bull or Bear crossing Total from below signals entry—long if Bull crosses, short if Bear crosses. A cross from above signals exit for the corresponding position.
Traders may instead use fixed thresholds: open long when Bull rises above 66; open short when Bear rises above 66.
According to ForTraders.org analysts, the Forex Total Power Indicator is suitable for trend-following strategies only when combined with additional filters.
